Irvin fight goes to a no-contest at "Young Guns 4"
Sunday, January 30, 2011 Article By Phil Lanides
UFC/Strikeforce veteran James "The Sandman" Irvin, who hadn't competed in Gladiator Challenge in seven years, returned to the promotion last night at "Young Guns 4" in Elko, Nevada. Special guest referee and MMA legend Ken Shamrock presided over the main event and ended up having a major impact on the fight.
Here are Irvin's words on what transpired in his fight with veteran Mike Crisman:
"I beat the brakes of this fool...he was sleeping on the ground. Ken Shamrock says I illegally kneed him, so it was a no-contest!
"I KO'd this guy and walked away before Shamrock even got there, and two minutes later, he says it's a no-contest."
Despite the controversy, Irvin holds an interesting view on the situation:
"It's cool. I don't have a scratch on me, and I'm fighting again in three weeks."
But don't let his reaction fool you. Irvin isn't done with Crisman yet.
"That was the luckiest night of that dude's life. [GC Promoter] Tedd Williams says I can rematch [Crisman] in May. Perfect rematch."
Be on the lookout for that fight!
